...I had to get myself close to you. You know what I mean? I was thinking that the music this week was overlooked, and seriously wonderful. If you have ever heard any of the songs on this weeks show, I apologize. I have a two song mini-set by the five following bands: Trip Shakespear, That Petrol Emotion, Jake Orvis & The Broken Band, Personal Effects, and Relatively Clean Rivers. Everything else is pretty much songs I have been playing over and over and over again lately. Check out my CD of the month on my blog page. Consider the full albums being played on the Saturday morning edition of the show. Enjoy. The G Man
Death By Misadventure, that is....The brand new release by the best band in Seattle, The Green Pajamas. This is a song cycle album with plenty of provacative lyrics and some stellar melodic lines. Hey, it isn't like I don't have any albums by them, I know, but this is a great addition to their catalogue. This is their thirtieth release. As the press release states: 'The album is built around the ultimate death of the Queen and her court by decadent misadventure...This is, of course, a fictional work, and any resemblence to real people living, dead, or otherwise is completely true.' In the second hour, after intermission, is the album 'Living With The Animals' by the Mother Earth Band. A 2004 re-release of a vinyl record from 1968. Some nice bluesy folk music with some entertaining lyrics on songs like the title track, and 'The Kingdom of Heaven (is within you).' If this is a KRUU show you have missed up to this point, this morning is a good time to tune in..... Cool Breeze
I have been neglecting my CD collection that is on a different shelf in my room. My boxed sets. They are so big you need a separate area to hold them. Well, I am going to play some songs off of eleven of the ones I currently have around. It is a genre thing, rather than a band thing, even though I will be playing very famous people during the show. Basically I go from pop to progressive to psychedelic to pop to folk to blues and finally to more psych. Just a lot of cherry picked songs from some tremendous compilations. Here we go... The G Man
'Big White Circle' is the name of a new release on vinyl by The Sudden Lovelys, a band from Minneapolis I met at a concert this summer in Ankeny, IA. You will get the full treatment. In a similar vein, I will be playing side two of 'Albion Doo-Wah' by Cat Mother & The All-Night Newsboys. Whenever I am in Albion, Iowa, you know what I do? I do the doo-wah. I think its time you do the doo, too. I have a cut from a rare disc by Jeff Kelly, and I threw in some ZZ Top and The Beatles just to balance out the obscurities. I stay in the folk arena with Blodwyn Pig, Bap Kennedy, The Byrds, and Cracker. You'll be awake and probably hunting for some chow after a wild night at the Art Walk so listen as you are grazing in the kitchen. Cool Breeze
'Yeah, the people are driftin', door to door, can't find no heaven, no matter where they go....'- Chris Thomas King. 'Someday, I won't be trouble no more'- Buddy Guy. 'I mean what I mean, and I know what I know'- Siegal-Schwall Band. 'My soul's wearin' thin....'- Dead Meadow. 'The sun is out of reach'-Cream. 'If I touched you, would it still be pointing at my shoes?'- The Bludlows. 'I've had my fun'- The Animals. 'Reminds me of a midnight dream'- Bo Ramsey. 'Please explain-have you got no place to go?'- John Hartford. 'I wonder why, she don't cry....'-The Chickasaw Mud Puppies. Yasssssss... The G Man

And I have a song from the 2000 release by Rumah Sakit, 'bring on the cobras'. California band that plays great dream pop with mathematical precision. Check out their album cover online, it is some wonderful art work. Album art is a whole world in itself. Two songs by DJ Shadow from 'The Less You Know, The Better'. That says it all. I have Explosions In The Sky and Planetarium Music contributing sick tracks. and I have a three-song misni-set by Psychic Ills, after a nineteen minute long song by George Harrison. Is this a great country, or what? Help on the way, 'cause I love what I love, and I want it that way... The G Man
...you would be keeping an eye out for interesting tunes like the Rainbow Rider #77 upcoming. That is Swedish, above, and it is one of the song titles from the album 'Ta Det Lugnt' by Dungen, which we will hear in it's entirety Saturday morning about 2:42 AM. How is that for specifics? I have no idea what the lyrics mean, but the music is so good it doesn't really matter. The songs have parts that sort of fit together like Black Sabbath did on their first two albums. I will also be playing some wild stuff by Hash Jar Tempo, a long medley by Lee Michaels, and a cover of 'Rainy Day, Dream Away', the great Hendrix tune, by the band Rainy Day. Guitar by David Roback, one of my favorite axemen. I even have time to sneak in 3 rockin' tunes. Check my blog for upcoming albums spinning your way... Cool Breeze
these two are the perfect metaphor for the music on this edition of centripetal sounds it is too dang hot to do much of anything at all so all the music is languid the show opens with a lenny kravitz song, flowers for zoe and then we float into some t bone burnett, donovan, king crimson, and the electric prunes my fave song, I then in the second half we will slow it down and relax a bit with some slint, and some great blues by tony joe white, siegal-schwall, and john hartford the most energetic we will get is shawn phillips from second contribution so if the air feels like its too thick to breathe or your metabolism is slogging along take a break with some cool music from the g man
Well, you get to a "Thin Place", a place in the Universe where you are somewhat closer to experiencing the divine. I was sitting in church the other day and the minister all of a sudden starts to elaborate on thin places, and their role in a spiritual life. Yeah, so, of course I thought of Centripetal Sounds listeners. Somehow the force that centers all things must have at least a casual acquaintance with thin places. Too busy to notice that life is a miracle? Check this out: I am going to play some songs that have compelling lyrics in this arena. The whole thing might turn out quite nice. After the theme song 'All Around You' I will launch into a set that includes The Moody Blues, Michael Nesmith, and Captain Beyond. I am going to fit in some tunes by The Knack, Dead Moon, and The Fireman. I found some interesting quotes and poems concerning the experience of thin places, so I will randomly read some of these. I am kind of excited about this show! The G Man
I will be sleeping with visions of 80/35 fest dancing in my head, but the show must go on. Therefore, two very special treats for listeners this Saturday morning. First up, the album 'Loma Prieta 3,402 Ft.', by Breasts. I have been playing cuts on Centripetal Sounds from this fine offering for a couple of months now. Very indie, very catchy, and perfect night time music. Hear it all in the 2 O'Clock hour. Then, Todo Muere, Volume 2, in the 3 O'Clock hour. This was the 2012 Record Store Day special issue album. Ten standout cuts from various bands like Psychic Ills, The Men, Slug Guts, and Amen Dunes. Compelling tunes in different languages that feel of a piece. Up top right after the show starts I am playing my favorite BST song 'Blues, Part 2'. Hey! Enjoy! Cool Breeze
