FRINGE TOAST - Era of Creative Explosion - Wed., 1/30/08
On this week's program, the music of Fairport Convention (photo) will delight your ears and memories of the creative explosion from 1968-72. Often credited as the first English electric folk band, the early Fairport Convention featured singing of Sandy Denny and guitar work of Richard Thompson. BBC Radio rated their 1969 release, "Meet On the Ledge" as #17 on its list of all-time songs. Yet, few in this country have every heard this piece. So, for your delectation and edification, DJ Andy Bargerstock will play this track and part of their 9-minute ballad, "Sloth".
Bonnie Raitt (USA) will kick off the show with a double dose of bluesy Itunes - Original recordings. Wrapped on the other side of Fairport Convention, we will be treated to singer-songwriter delights by John Butler Trio (Australia), Ben Harper, Cat Power, and Luka Bloom (Ireland).
Then, we will slide into the weekly Fringe Toast Chill-out set with this week's artists: Federico Aubelle (Argentina), Siobhan De Mare and Robin Guthrie, a.k.a, Violet Indiana, Leggo Beast (UK), Solid Doctor (UK), and little known tracks from British group, Zero 7.
... and throughout the show, the Fringe Toast Meister will slip in a variety of rare tracks from little known groups. As your brain slips into an endorphin swoon, remember the blessings that come from KRUU-FM, your community radio station that is garnering a national audience. Soon, our fiber optic lines will be hooked up to make it easier for out-of-town friends to listen.
