Get Wheel, Fairfield!
Get a leg up on sustainability, spoken-whirred peeps, and get some exercise at the same time. Hey, it's good for you, good for the city and good for the planet. The mayor himself is leading by example, as he said on Melinda Arndt's AROUND TOWN show this morning.
On this week's show, DJ Andy Bargerstock honors the British group, Morcheeba (photo) described as "exuding fluffy soul style, pop melodies and trip-hop rhythms ... (while dipping) their toes into the waters of electronica." (Yahoo Music Review) Although Skye Edwards no longer performs lead vocals, the late 1990s tracks played will demonstrate why they are such an engaging group.
The program begins with a strong set of blues/jam performances by The Unseen Guest (Ireland/India), Widespread Panic (USA), James Montgomery Blues Band (USA), and Thunderclap Newman (UK) with a rare recording "Sunshine in My Life." Yes, this is the same Thunderclap Newman known for their late 1969 hit "Something in the Air" which is bound to be given an airing someday. Later, you will hear a couple of additional tracks from last week's Sounds from the Ground electronic feature group from the CD, "Kin". Listen closely for a chillout version of the James Bond theme from Double Zero. read more »
Attention all hep cats 'n kitties in the Pittsville, Doomstown, and Tri-Color area: The Jukebox Boogaloo is now locked and loaded for your funking convenience on two (count 'em) late nite slots!
Our live two-hour excursion to the psalm at the end of the mind leaves the station on Saturday nite at 10:00 pm. And now for those who were busy pimpin' and stylin' during the first show, or for masoChrists ready for another dose of the Prince O'Wails keepin' it surreal on the wheels of steal, the rebroadcast will funk up the KRUU airwaves every Tuesday nite, 11pm-1am.
Peace. Chicken Grease.
Truckstop Souvenir are coming on the show tonight to play some great music. Dennis James and Lauryn Shapter make up Truckstop Souvenir, whose music “does not rely on any sort of trickery ... [with] a sound that lives in the balance between old Southern country music and folk ballads, drenched in lazy and relaxed atmosphere.” (Roots Highway).
Today's show will present rebroadcasts of three key interviews.

Leave your mark
Just leave your mark on me
Leave a mark
Just leave a mark on me
So if we part
I can still remember you
Leave a mark
Just leave it somewhere on me
~ Jessie Baylin, Leave Your Mark
This week on Lyrical Venus we'll start off celebrating some musical mothers in honor of Mother's Day - having kids sure seems to inspire some good songs!
After that, our special guest will be Jessie Baylin.
Recently off the 2008 Hotel Cafe Tour, Jessie is currently touring the country with Swedish folk-rocker Teitur and they will be appearing at the CSPS Legion Arts Center in Cedar Rapids on May 17th. Jessie's smooth vocals have been compared to melting vanilla ice cream, so it's sure to be a sweet treat! Tune in at 9am Tuesday!
