on Fringe Toast Wed, 02/10/2010 - 9:00pm

women of africaListen early for two selections from CD "Women of Africa" that is part of the Putumayo World Music collection.   Photo here shows artwork of Nicola Heindl, famous British artist who does most of the Putumayo CD covers.  jacqui huntFrom this CD you will hear Maria de Barros, sharing music from the island nation, Cape Verde, off the northwest coast of Africa. Also, you will hear singer Nawal from the island nation of Comoros, off the east coast of Africa.  Soon thereafter on this night, Single Gun Theory with lead singer, Jaqui Hunt (photo), takes the Fringe Toast stage. This little known Australian group released three CDs from 1987-94 and paints splendid downtempo landscapes with tracks "Motherland" and "Surrender."  These dreamy tracks will haunt you for weeks until you, yourself, get the downloads.  How did we ever miss Single Gun Theory?!!

Last week's response to UK electronica band, Above and Beyond, prompts DJ Andy Bargerstock to share two new tracks this week.  New FT first-timers include Timo Maas (German DJ), Aether ("minimalist post rock" from Columbus), El Perro del Mar (indie pop from Sweden), Worldwide Groove Corporation (Nashville based downtempo, hip, groove-carving), Ijahman (Jamaican reggae trip-out from 1978), and unknown artists, LTJ Experience, and E.L.O.W.  Lots more really good stuff beyond this fun.  Tell your friends around the USA to stream Fringe Toast live from www.kruufm.com . Mark your calendar and tune in early.  CHILL. Click here for playlist.
