-the president's liberal use of executive privilege with former White house employees

-John McCain's campaign meltdown

-further GOP defections over the quagmire in Iraq, and

-the optimistic face Mr. Bush is attempting to put on the interim Iraq surge report that says only 8 out of 18 benchmarks have reached "satisfactory" levels. US expenditures for Iraq and Afghanistan have reached $3 billion a week.
