Personal Information
- Brief Bio
Glen Keenan's interest in radio first took hold while attending Grinnell College when he became a show host on KDIC, the student radio station. He later transferred to the University of Iowa, where he graduated with a B.A. in Communication Studies. His interest in radio continued at the U of I, where he took a radio comedy class taught by Duck's Breath Mystery Theater member Dan Coffey (a.k.a. Dr. Science, heard on National Public Radio). Glen and 3 classmates later took an independent study course under Coffey, and the four of them created, wrote and produced a half-hour radio series of original sketch comedy called "KPUT", which aired on KRUI in Iowa City. He also wrote comedy pieces for Coffey's series, "The Iowa Radio Project", which aired on many NPR stations. Glen lives in Fairfield with his wife Missy, their son Jack, and his daughter JoEllen.Glen's show on KRUU airs from 9:00 to 11:00 PM Central on Thursdays and is titled "Ain't That Peculiar". From 9:00 to 10:00 PM, you will hear pop & rock from the 60s until the present. Sometimes Glen plays sets of songs built around a theme--including horrible covers of Beatles songs, Schoolhouse Rock songs, "Gender Benders" (songs originally performed or made famous by an artist of one gender, covered by an artist of the opposite gender), songs about superheroes and villains, disco songs by non-disco artists, and horrible Christmas songs. From 10:00 to 10:30 PM, you will hear pre-recorded comedy built on one or more themes. You will hear sketch comedy (including Monty Python & National Lampoon), stand-up comedy (including Woody Allen & Steve Martin), comedy readings (including David Sedaris), and comedy songs (including Tom Lehrer). From 10:30 to 11:00 PM, you will hear more of the same kind of music that you heard from 9:00 to 10:00 PM--or sometimes you will hear soul, funk and R&B from the 50s, 60s & 70s, including Stevie Wonder, Sam & Dave, Marvin Gaye, Ray Charles, the Staple Singers, the Spinners, and Earth, Wind & Fire.
